Mark Meynell has a really worthwhile blog that manages to get the right balance between the lighthearted and personal/serious/critical. He recently wrote this post quoting Tim Keller at length. The end quote from the cartoon above is taken from that post. I have changed the word 'Pharisee' for 'religious people'.

Before I spoil things, it is worth reading Mark's webpage to get a clearer view on what this section is about.

The epilogue text can be read here. It is a story where Jesus makes the important distinction that our external reputation/deeds cannot disguise inner pollution.

You can find the John 3v19-21 text here.

The MP's expenses scandal has been a big thing in the media over the last month (although the Michael Jackson funeral seems to have eclipsed it somehow...). Clearly this cartoon draws it's inspiration from some of the developments in the story.

Yes, it was a major media event - perhaps whipped up by people who didn't like these two presenters, perhaps an indication of how disgraceful licence-fee wages are for such childish antics, perhaps a sense of people getting ready for harsher financial times. Anyway - it dominated the news for some time and so I weighed in with this piece that has two main ideas in it: Read More...

It was pretty shocking to see how open people were on TV about stealing stuff from the Napoli that wasn't theirs. It was a bit like the scenes of looting during Katrina in the sense that it was in broad daylight and there was an atmosphere of 'normal rules don't apply'.

Terry Wogan earns a huge amount of money. I thought that this was well worth using because it raises the big question of 'who is worth that?'. The lovely thing about being a christian is that God places infinite value on us by giving His life for us on the cross. People with little or no self esteem can be cherished and cared for in the arms of God. Amazing.

I cheated a little here. The image comes from a set of three pictures I produced for the Brighton Festival Fringe.

Tim Bongers is the dedicatee. I did this specially for him and then the EN staff inadvertently chopped off the whole right hand side of the strip... it was made worse by me telling Tim to look for it. Sorry.

Richard Dawkins is an intelligent man with plenty to say about christianity and religion that is fundamentally flawed. A TV program was shown where he basically did a rather stupid hatchet job. I wanted to point out that this hero cannot continue to be such a thing if he continues making straw-man arguments.

I wanted to dedicate this to the Christians in Science organisation, who do a great job of portraying a thoughtful response to so much incredulity.

It is interesting how easy it is to legitimise snobbery. The 'chav' term had become far too regular among some christian acquaintances of mine and I wanted to draw a link with the story of the tax collector and the pharisee. Acceptance regardless of who you are is a priority for christians.
